Pretoria (PA) - Brazil reached the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup with a
comfortable 3-0 win over an unambitious United States side in Pretoria.
After a controversial 4-3 victory over Egypt in their opening game Dunga's men were under pressure to impress.
And
the Copa America champions did more than enough to earn victory over
their Gold Cup counterparts as goals by Felipe Melo (7), Manchester
City striker Robinho (20) and Maicon (62) produced a scoreline which
still flattered the Americans, who had Sacha Kljestan sent off in the
second half.
Mohamed Homos scored the only goal as Egypt claimed a memorable victory over Italy in Johannesburg.
The
Pharaohs, who came into the game needing to avoid defeat to retain
hopes of making the semi-finals, looked lively throughout and were
rewarded with a 40th-minute strike from the Ismaily midfielder.
They
then had stand-in captain and goalkeeper Essam El Hadary to thank after
he produced a string of fine saves to help them hold on for all three
points in Group B.
