Los Angeles (AP) — Outfielder Manny Ramirez has agreed to exercise his
contract option and will return to the Los Angeles Dodgers for another
season at 20 million dollars.
Ramirez, who was suspended for 50
Major League Baseball games last season after failing a drug test, has
to donate one million dollars to charity as part of the deal.
The
12-time all-star Ramirez hit .290 with 19 homers and 63 RBI in 104
games. The Dodgers were eliminated from the playoff in five games by
the Philadelphia Phillies.
This is the second year of a two-year
contract Ramirez signed with the Dogders. The first year of the
no-trade deal paid him 25 million dollars.
He has a .313 batting
average with 546 home runs and 1,788 RBIs in 17 major league seasons
with Los Angeles, Cleveland and Boston.
